A commitment born in the heart of Sicily

For us at Miscela d’Oro, sustainability is a natural choice — just like the aroma of freshly roasted coffee filling the streets of Messina. Creating a high-quality product means caring for the environment at every stage of the supply chain, from the coffee plant to your cup.

We assess and reduce environmental impact throughout the production process, mindful of how every decision affects ecosystems. This is the only way to guarantee coffee that respects people, the land, and the future.

Every bean matters: from plantation to your cup

Our environmental care starts right in the coffee fields. Each year, we purchase tons of green coffee from Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, prioritising sustainable farms. Specifically, for our organic blend, we select only certified plantations. This commitment led to the creation of our Bio Natura Collection — a special line of organic coffee grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, supporting local farmers and fair trade.

Our attention continues with packaging choices: we use recyclable and compostable materials, aiming to minimise waste and ensuring that every residue is properly recycled.

Environmental indicators: measuring to improve

Reducing environmental impact is one of our top priorities. That’s why we constantly monitor key indicators: energy consumption, CO₂ emissions during production, and dust emissions during roasting.

We’ve also introduced a parameter that measures the amount of oil emulsions used relative to the volume of coffee produced. The analysis confirms extremely low usage — clear proof of our concrete commitment to minimising environmental impact.

Low-impact logistics, from departure to delivery

For us, sustainability also means smarter logistics. In Italy, we ensure efficient, responsible deliveries, relying on sustainable transportation and using electric vehicles in urban areas to reduce CO₂ emissions and noise pollution. For international shipments, we adopt diverse strategies: in Europe, we prioritise optimised road transport, while for the rest of the world, we favour sea freight — collaborating with international carriers who share our focus on sustainable practices.

Where possible, we choose full container loads (FCL) to cut emissions, while in other cases, we use shared shipments (groupage) to minimise waste and make the best use of available space. Every logistics choice is designed to reduce environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Flavour that makes a difference: compostable and recyclable

Always mindful of our products’ environmental footprint, we’ve embraced solutions that combine taste and sustainability. Since 2019, our pods have been made with compostable filter paper derived from plant fibres — ensuring an authentic coffee experience with a reduced ecological impact.

Similarly, our Nespresso® compatible plastic capsules have been replaced by compostable versions made from plant-based materials and sealed with recyclable aluminium. When disposed of correctly, they turn into compost — nourishing the soil and completing a production cycle that is increasingly responsible.

The Sicilian sun, our clean energy

The Sicilian sun doesn’t just warm our days — it also powers our production. Thanks to solar panels installed on our facility’s roof, we now cover 40% of our energy needs. This significantly reduces CO₂ emissions and makes our production processes more efficient and sustainable.

But our commitment doesn’t stop there: we continue to invest in innovative technologies to boost our renewable energy capacity and ensure even more environmentally conscious production. Harnessing the sun’s energy is a tangible way to value the natural resources our land offers and to build a more responsible, aware future.

An ethical approach rooted in solidarity and our territory

We are a family business deeply connected to our land and its people. For us, success is not just about numbers but about creating value for those around us and for the environment that hosts us.

That’s why we constantly support charitable initiatives and social inclusion projects. Among these is our contribution to Messina’s largest soup kitchen, where we donate essential goods to help those most in need. These are not occasional gestures, but an ongoing commitment — because we believe solidarity is built day by day. Social responsibility is part of our identity: we put our heart not only into our products, but also into the choices we make for the community that raised us.

Our environmental promise: concrete and certified

Our UNI EN ISO 14001 certification is far more than recognition — it’s a deliberate, strategic choice for the future of our company and our planet. This international standard guides us in setting concrete environmental goals and continually monitoring our activities to reduce waste, consumption, and emissions. It means adopting a responsible approach by investing in efficient technologies and sustainable production processes — guaranteeing both transparency and reliability.

For us, being certified is not only about complying with environmental regulations; it’s about taking on the daily task of improving, valuing resources, and diminishing the impact of our decisions. It’s a tangible promise to those who choose our coffee and to future generations — one of quality, respect, and sustainability.
